Upper Cervical OC
Upper cervical care is based on the universal law of cause and effect. For every effect or symptom (physical or mental), there must be a cause. Upper cervical doctors focus their efforts on locating and removing interference to the nervous system that may be the cause of your health condition. Removing this interference can allow the body to heal itself naturally without the use of potentially harmful drugs or surgery. An upper cervical correction is gentle and there is no forceful pulling, twisting, or jerking motion of your neck. The correction is applied using a precise and controlled touch that allows the head, neck, and spine to return to their proper positions, restoring balance to the body and removing the interference.
The most common misconception about upper cervical care is that it only helps back and neck pain. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although Upper Cervical doctors can certainly help those suffering from neck and back pain, these patients represent a small fraction of the patients seen in an upper cervical doctor’s office. Patients suffering from a variety of conditions have had their health restored through upper cervical care. This approach confirms that the fact that the body is a self-healing organism directly controlled and coordinated by the central nervous system which is protected by your skull and spine.
Upper cervical care is a rapidly growing form of chiropractic that focuses on the intimate relationship between the first two bones in the neck called the upper cervical spine, and a vital portion of the nervous system, known as the brain stem. This relationship is essential to the body’s ability to preserve and restore health. Think of the brain stem as the control center that extends down an opening in the base of your skull, making it vulnerable to injuries or irritation around the upper neck. The brain stem works like a telephone cable with thousands of individual wires or nerve fibers sending signals back and forth between the brain and spinal cord to every cell, organ and system in the body. Every nerve impulse between the brain and the body must pass through the brain stem. The nervous system is responsible for all communication within the body. It controls your immune system, emotions, vision, hearing, balance, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, muscle tension, posture, hormones, and every other function. Irritation or pressure within the central nervous system can interrupt communication between the brain and the body, thus creating a variety of health problems.
The top two vertebrae, the Atlas and Axis, are especially vulnerable to injury or misalignment because they are the most mobile segments of the spine. If neglected, an upper cervical misalignment can lead to irreversible spinal degeneration and chronic ill health. Upper cervical misalignments can be caused by falls, auto accidents, sports, job injuries, concussions, physical or emotional stress, poor posture, or even birth trauma.
While excellent medical care is available for critical situations and acute trauma, these cases represent a small portion of today’s health care problems. Many people live with chronic conditions that have progressed for years despite traditional health care. Furthermore, in recent years, side effects from drugs have become a major concern for patients (e.g. Celebrex, Vioxx and OxyContin). By some accounts, hundreds of thousands die annually in the United States due to medical errors and adverse side effects. Too often, patients discover upper cervical care after having undergone years of traditional health care that only treated the symptoms or effects of their conditions. Prolonged treatments that ignore the cause may permit health problems to worsen to the point that they require surgical intervention. This is where upper cervical care differs from traditional medicine. Upper cervical care strives to correct the underlying cause of health problems.
Doctors who are dedicated to Upper Cervical care, such as Dr. Ri, have an extensive post-doctorate training and education in the brain stem and the upper cervical spine. Countless patients across the country have achieved a greater state of health without the risk of potentially harmful drugs or surgery.
Everyone – infants to seniors, mothers-to-be, athletes, and accident victims will benefit from a health spine and nervous system. If you have a health problem, Dr. Ri will strive to correct its cause, not just treat the symptoms. If you are a symptom-free, upper cervical care is one of the best ways to stay healthy.
